Philanthropist Solomon Maina Shares Inspiring Education Journey.
Philanthropist Solomon Maina, known as Solo from Mathira in Nyeri County, shared his remarkable educational journey during Education Day at Ndima Kanini Academy in Mathira. Maina recounted his struggles and eventual triumph in education, providing an inspiring narrative to students.
Solo reflected on his early academic challenges, stating that he was consistently the last in his class from lower primary school up to Class 5. Despite repeating the same class three times, he remained at the bottom of his class, which led him to lose hope in education.
His turning point came when his father, who was working far from home, intervened. Upon learning of Solo’s continued struggles, he arranged for a cousin to coach him in mathematics. This intervention proved transformative. Under his cousin’s guidance, Solo’s attitude toward the subject changed, and by the end of the term, he had significantly improved his performance, scoring 54% in mathematics, a notable increase from his previous scores.
Maina’s progress did not stop there. By Class 8, he excelled in mathematics, achieving a top score of 96% in the KCPE national exams. He also overcame the discipline challenges he faced, including frequent punishment for poor performance.
Continuing his academic journey, Solomon Maina achieved a B+ in high school and successfully gained admission to university. His story serves as a testament to perseverance and the impact of support in overcoming educational challenges.
