Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that he remains accountable only to the Kenyan people who elected him and have the power to remove him through the ballot. In a recent interview on Citizen TV at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, he addressed the motivations behind calls for his ouster.

Gachagua alleged that some members of Parliament have been bought to support impeachment efforts against him, stating, “If they choose to proceed with that, so be it. My position is clear: I was elected by the people of Kenya, and it’s the people who will ultimately determine whether I am doing my job effectively.”

While speaking at Wakulima Market, he challenged those plotting his removal to confront him directly rather than meeting in private settings. He claimed that unnamed government officials were actively working to sway MPs to back the impeachment motion.

During the interview, Gachagua appeared resigned to the possibility of his removal, saying, “If members of Parliament are persuaded, intimidated, or coerced into removing me from office, so be it. The matter ends there; it’s that simple.”

He revealed that a recent meeting in Nyahururu was focused on strategies to force him out of office, with many attendees reportedly coerced into participating.
