Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shed light on his recent absence from significant national events attended by President William Ruto and other State officials.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen TV on Friday, Gachagua revealed that he and his team have been removed from the WhatsApp group that shares the President’s itinerary, effectively excluding them from key State affairs.

Gachagua alleged that Reuben Miayo, the President’s private secretary, expelled his team from the President’s diary about a week ago, leaving him unaware of official functions.

“When I am informed about the President’s schedule, I am always present. When I’m not aware, there’s nothing I can do,” he explained.

He described the removal from the group as “mischievous,” suggesting it is part of a broader strategy to discredit his role as Deputy President and potentially justify an impeachment motion against him.

“This move ensures I fail to attend State functions or appear late, which could be framed as disrespectful or indicative of neglecting my duties,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua appealed to President Ruto and those around him to reinstate his access to the presidential diary, emphasizing his role as the second-in-command.

“I am the Deputy President elected by the people, and it is only fair that I have access to the presidential schedule to align our agendas,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to his role, describing himself as a “workaholic” and expressing deep respect for the President and his office.

“I would be the last person to arrive late to events. I urge those around the presidency not to create conflict between the President and me,” he added.
