Thuo Mathenge, leader of The New Democrat (TND) Party, has urged political leaders to adopt a more constructive approach to governance, emphasizing the importance of national development over divisive politics.
In a recent interview, Mathenge stressed the need for issue-based discussions, encouraging leaders to prioritize the economic and social welfare of Kenyans to drive progress. “The era of petty politics is behind us. Our responsibility as leaders is to enhance the lives of those we represent,” he asserted.
He highlighted the crucial role of national unity, calling on leaders from all regions to collaborate for the country’s benefit. Mathenge cautioned that ongoing tribalism and political fragmentation would impede Kenya’s advancement. “We are one nation. Division distracts us from the development we urgently need. Leaders must transcend their differences for the common good,” he emphasized.
Mathenge also pointed out the necessity for accountability and transparency among politicians, noting that the public increasingly demands trustworthy leaders who deliver on their promises. He warned against the frequent infighting that has characterized Kenyan politics, asserting that such behaviors only obstruct national growth.
His comments come as the TND Party gains traction, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, positioning itself as a significant contender in the lead-up to the 2027 general election. Mathenge believes this growing support reflects a desire for a new political paradigm, one grounded in integrity and focused on the future.
“TND is poised to be a key player in the 2027 election. We are witnessing a shift as voters, especially in Mount Kenya, are embracing our vision of unity and development,” Mathenge concluded.
