Today, the educational community pays tribute to Dr. Mutahi Miricho, a prominent educator from Nyeri whose extensive contributions to the teaching profession have significantly shaped the landscape of education in Kenya. Renowned as the leading Kiswahili scholar in the region, Dr. Miricho holds a Ph.D. in Kiswahili and Communication from Laikipia University.
Dr. Miricho’s impact on education is far-reaching. He has played a pivotal role in developing the Kiswahili curriculum at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and has authored a multitude of Kiswahili textbooks utilized in schools nationwide. His teaching and mentorship have fostered the growth of many aspiring teachers, some of whom have gone on to become authors themselves.
His academic achievements include a Master of Arts in Kiswahili from the University of Nairobi (2015) and a Bachelor of Education in Kiswahili and Literature from the same institution (2006). Dr. Miricho has also served as a part-time lecturer at Karatina University and Murang’a University of Technology, as well as a Curriculum Support Officer with the Teachers Service Commission.
Dr. Miricho’s dedication to research is evident in his publications, which include notable works such as “How to Polish Learners’ Writing Skills” and “Fasihi ya Watoto ya Kiswahili kama Wenzo wa Kuangazia Masuala ya Kisiasa.” His textbooks, including “Dafina” and “Kamusi ya Misemo Kimaudhui,” are essential resources for Kiswahili education.
His contributions have not gone unnoticed; Dr. Miricho has received several awards, including the CBC book tender awards for Grade 7 and 8 Kiswahili texts, along with commendation certificates from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Miricho is deeply engaged in community service, holding leadership positions in organizations such as Karatina Catholic Church and local educational institutions. He also provides consultancy services for the development of the CBC Kiswahili curriculum.
