Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has clarified claims made by Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi regarding his accompanying President William Ruto in Turkana
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has clarified claims made by Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi regarding his accompanying President William Ruto in Turkana for the Tubong’u lore cultural festival.
Wamumbi, in a Facebook post, expressed gratitude to Kahiga for representing Nyeri during the President’s visit.
“Governor Mutahi Kahiga, many thanks for representing Nyeri well as you accompanied President William Samoei Ruto for a development tour in Turkana County,” Wamumbi wrote, suggesting a close collaboration between the two leaders.
In response, Kahiga took to his own Facebook page to set the record straight.
“Mheshimiwa Eric Wamumbi MP Mathira, hapa umejaribu. William Samoei Ruto alikuwa Lodwar Jana Ijumaa tarehe 25 oktoba, nami na Magavana Ahmed Abdullahi, Muthomi Njuki, na Gavana Lusaka wa Bungoma tulikuwa Lodwar Tobong’u Lore Alhamisi tarehe 24 Oktoba,” he stated.
Kahiga further noted that had he been asked by President Ruto to accompany him, he would have gladly accepted, given his role as Vice Chairman of The Council of Governors.
The exchange comes amid a backdrop of tension within the region, particularly for Mt. Kenya MPs who voted for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Many of these MPs, including Wamumbi, are reportedly facing hostility from constituents, leading some to avoid visiting their areas for fear of backlash.
Kahiga, a staunch supporter of the impeached Deputy President, has positioned himself as a key figure in the ongoing political dynamics,
As tensions rise, the future of local political relationships remains uncertain, with constituents increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with their elected leaders
