Drama unfolded Monday morning as Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina Mathenge faced heckling from residents while addressing drivers at the Nyeri Town down stage.
The MP visited the area to express sympathy for Matatu workers who are being relocated to the new bus terminus, emphasizing that the move could jeopardize their livelihoods. However, he was met with hostility from residents, who labeled him a traitor for voting to impeach their local leader.
Chants of anti-MP slogans echoed as they expressed their refusal to accept assistance from what they called a “traitor.”
Matatus are set to move to the new bus terminus at Asian Quarters today, but drivers have indicated they do not want Mathenge’s support. The MP voted to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who hails from Nyeri County.
