The County Government of Nyeri has expressed its pride in the region’s historical figures as it progresses with significant developments aimed at enhancing local tourist sites. A gazebo is currently under construction at the Karunaini site in Tetu constituency, a notable location where Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri was shot and captured during the struggle for independence.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi  has emphasized that this gazebo is just the beginning of a more expansive vision for the site. Plans are underway to establish the Maumau Museum, which will serve as a tribute to the heroes of the Mau Mau uprising and educate visitors about the rich history of the region.

This initiative complements the already completed monument dedicated to Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri, further solidifying Nyeri’s commitment to preserving and honoring its heritage. The county government believes that these developments will not only pay homage to the heroes of the past but also boost tourism, providing opportunities for economic growth and community engagement.

“We are proud of our heroes. These projects reflect our dedication to honoring their legacy and making our historical sites more accessible to visitors,” stated Governor Kahiga

As construction continues, the county government invites residents and tourists alike to look forward to the completion of these projects, which promise to enhance the cultural landscape of Nyeri and celebrate its historical significance.
