During a press conference today at Karatina Police Station in Mathira, Kanja stated that efforts are continuing to locate the officer, who is rumored to have passed away despite still being classified as missing.
“That officer is still missing, and all efforts are in place to ensure that we find him. We assure the family that we are doing everything possible to bring him back,” Kanja said.
The officer disappeared on Tuesday, March 25, during a raid by Haitian gangs targeting Kenyan police personnel. The incident took place in the Lower Artibonite region, approximately 92 kilometers north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.
Kenyan Police Spokesperson in Haiti, Jack Ombaka, confirmed that the officer went missing after their vehicles became stuck in a ditch, which is believed to have been deliberately dug by the gangs. In response, two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from Pont-Sonde, located in central Haiti, were dispatched to assist in the recovery efforts.
