The Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of City Eye Hospital have expressed profound sadness over the passing of Dr. Amos Kibata Githeko, the founder of the hospital and King’s Ophthalmics Limited. Dr. Kibata died on September 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Known as a visionary leader and skilled surgeon, Dr. Kibata played a pivotal role in transforming a small clinical practice into the renowned institutions recognized today. His dedication to patient care and commitment to excellence have left a lasting legacy in the field of ophthalmology.

Dr. Kibata was a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Pediatric and Vitreo-Retinal Surgery. He held both MBChB and MMed (Ophthalmology) degrees from the University of Nairobi and completed the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) examinations. He was awarded the ICO International Fellow Award and the International Strabismus Association Fellowship Award. Additionally, he was a Fellow of the College of Surgeons in Glasgow and the College of Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa (COECSA), and he served as Chairman of the Ophthalmology Society of Kenya.

The hospital extended its condolences to Dr. Kibata’s family and friends in Kenya and around the world, thanking clients and business partners for their support during this challenging time.

Daily memorial meetings are scheduled at St. Andrew’s Church in Nairobi on Friday and Monday at 5:30 PM, and at City Eye Hospital on Ngong’ Road on Sunday at 2 PM.
