Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken to social media to condemn the ongoing use of the criminal justice system as a political tool, labeling it an outdated strategy reminiscent of past governance practices. In a recent Facebook post, Gachagua expressed his embarrassment over the resurgence of these tactics since he and President William Ruto took office.

Gachagua revealed that harassment against his office staff and several Members of Parliament perceived as his allies has intensified over the past two months. He specifically pointed out allegations of a scheme aimed at fabricating charges against three of his staff members and two MPs: James Gakuya of Embakasi North and Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk of Embakasi Central.

“This evil scheme is intended to associate them with violent demonstrations that occurred in late June,” Gachagua stated, suggesting that these actions are designed to tarnish his reputation and provide grounds for potential impeachment proceedings against him.

He emphasized that Kenyans are aware of the underlying issues prompting public unrest and asserted that he is not among the factors contributing to the country’s challenges. Gachagua called on law enforcement agencies to maintain professionalism and refrain from engaging in political maneuvering, urging them to adhere strictly to the rule of law.
