Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has delivered a strong message to local leaders, urging them to cease political maneuvering that undermines development. Speaking at the commissioning of the Endarasha Charity Road, Kindiki emphasized that ongoing politicking will only exacerbate the challenges faced by residents.
“It is high time we stop politicking; such actions lead to the suffering of our people and stall development. As a government, we are focused on progress for the remaining two years of our term,” Kindiki stated.
His comments come amid increased political activity from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is rallying local leaders to form a robust opposition within the Kenya Kwanza coalition. Gachagua has allied with other opposition figures and has pledged to ensure President Ruto serves only one term.
Notably absent from Kindiki’s event were Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Deputy Governor David Waro, both of whom support Gachagua’s camp.
Reiterating his commitment to development, Kindiki informed attendees that the government has allocated 17 billion Kenyan Shillings for road construction in Nyeri County. “This county is financially stable now. Previously, we focused on stabilizing the Kenyan shilling, and we can now afford to invest in development. We urge leaders to stop politicking and work towards our region’s progress,” he said.
Kindiki also expressed his determination to ensure that all development projects, including stalled roads, are completed, with plans to invite the President for their inauguration.
Additionally, leaders from the Mt. Kenya region, including Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, called for unity among Kenyans and an end to divisive politics. “We are in this government to stay. We supported its election; it is unacceptable for anyone to ask us to leave now that we are beginning to see results,” Wainaina asserted.
As the political landscape evolves, Kindiki’s call for a focus on development resonates amid ongoing tensions within the region.
