President William Ruto met today with Nyeri County MPs and Senator at State House, Nairobi, to discuss key development initiatives in the region. The meeting included all six Nyeri MPs: Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia, Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina Mathenge, and Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto, alongside Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga.
Notably absent from the meeting was Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who hails from Nyeri County, amid ongoing tensions between him and the president.
Following the meeting, President Ruto shared significant updates on his Facebook page, announcing that Othaya’s Mwai Kibaki Hospital, an annex of Kenyatta National Hospital, will be gazetted as a parastatal. This elevation will allow the hospital to operate with its own board and independent budget, enhancing its capacity to provide comprehensive healthcare services. The president emphasized that these improvements are part of the government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage, set to launch next month.
During the meeting, discussions also centered on various development programs, including infrastructure projects related to roads, stadia, fresh produce markets, and water supply in Nyeri County. The collaborative efforts aim to bolster the county’s growth and improve the living standards of its residents.
