An opinion poll conducted by Nyeri Mohoro Newshub on Facebook has revealed the frontrunners for the Nyeri Governor seat in 2027.

The poll, which engaged a total of 938 participants over two days, gauged public sentiment among three declared aspirants for the gubernatorial seat.

The poll involved three aspirants who have declared interest for the gubernatorial seat in 2027 namely Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, TND party chairman Thuo Mathenge Wanguku and John Mwangi Munyiri Johny, a strategic partnerships specialist

Thuo Mathenge Wangûkû, the leader of the TND Party and a prominent business mogul, is the frontrunner for the Nyeri gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The results show a significant lead for Wangûkû, with 670 votes in his favor.

John Munyiri Johny, a youthful new entrant to the political arena, garnered 203 votes. In contrast, Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, who previously withdrew from the gubernatorial race in 2022 to support Kahiga, received only 67 votes.

Wangûkû, hailing from Nyeri Town Constituency, has previously contested for the gubernatorial seat three times and is poised to make another attempt in 2027. He aims to leverage his extensive experience in both business and politics to make a significant impact on the county’s governance.

Meanwhile, Johny hails from Kieni Constituency and brings a fresh perspective to the race, appealing to younger voters who are eager for change. Wamatinga, from Mathira Constituency, will need to reassess his strategy as he continues to serve in the Senate.

As the political landscape in Nyeri begins to take shape ahead of the elections, the results of this poll signal a clear preference among voters, with Wangûkû emerging as a strong candidate. His supporters are optimistic about his chances, while Johny’s entry adds an interesting dynamic to the race.

With the 2027 elections still a few years away, the political climate in Nyeri promises to evolve as these aspirants campaign and engage with the electorate in the months to come.
