The Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay is on track to be handed over to the County government by May 15th, ready to host the 2025 Madaraka Day
The Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay is on track to be handed over to the County government by May 15th, ready to host the 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations. The National government-led rehabilitation project, ongoing for the past two months, is nearing completion and is expected to accommodate over 10,000 attendees.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, during a recent inspection, confirmed the stadium’s readiness for the June 1st national event. He noted that contractors are in the final stages of installing canopies on the newly constructed pavilions. Omollo, accompanied by Governor Gladys Wanga, urged local business owners to capitalize on the influx of visitors during the celebrations.
Governor Wanga expressed optimism that the event would provide a platform to address critical issues affecting fishermen in Lake Victoria, particularly insecurity and resource limitations that contribute to accidents. She emphasized the long-term economic benefits of the ongoing projects for Homa Bay residents and encouraged the business community to seize the opportunity to boost their enterprises.
In addition to Madaraka Day, Homa Bay County is also preparing to host the 2025 Devolution Conference, organized by the Council of Governors (CoG). On Tuesday, the CoG held a consultative meeting with local business communities, where traders voiced concerns about potential price gouging during the conference.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, chairperson of the devolution conference steering committee, acknowledged the business opportunities presented by the conference and cautioned traders against inflating prices beyond normal rates. He stated that the 9th conference aims to strengthen devolution and promote socio-economic development for Kenyans.
Governor Wanga assured that Homa Bay is fully prepared to host the Devolution Conference, calling on businesses to provide quality goods and services to attendees. She also appealed to residents to maintain peace and harmony to maximize the region’s economic gains from the event.
