Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has asserted that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s absence from a church event in Nyeri County on September 15 was due to President William Ruto’s change of plans.
Speaking on September 20, Kahiga revealed that Gachagua had called him the night before the event, indicating that both he and the president would attend after an earlier engagement in Kirinyaga County.
“The president is the reason for that empty seat. The deputy president told me they would be going to Kirinyaga first before coming to Nyeri. I was prepared for their arrival, only to find out the president opted for a different event in Outering that morning instead,” Noted Kahiga.
Kahiga added that during the Nyeri event, the president inquired about Gachagua’s attendance, to which Kahiga responded that the deputy president was waiting for him in Kirinyaga.
“The president seemed surprised and said, ‘Oh my God, it happened that I changed my plans a bit in the morning,'” Kahiga explained.
