In a vibrant celebration of Mazingira Day, a day dedicated to fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices, Nyeri MCA Agnes Wachira joined forces with Equity Bank and Kamwenja Teachers Training College to plant 2,000 trees.

The event, which took place today, featured both indigenous and exotic species, underscoring the importance of forest restoration in the face of climate change.

MCA Wachira emphasized the significance of collective action in safeguarding the environment, stating, “Every small action counts in protecting our planet.” The initiative aligns with the national goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, aimed at increasing Kenya’s forest cover from the current 12% to 30%. This ambitious agenda seeks to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change that threaten the country.

The celebration attracted notable figures, including MCA Janet Kamiru, Deputy Principal of Kamwenja Teachers Training College Mr. Mbau, along with lecturers, staff, students, and representatives from Equity Bank.

Kamiru encouraged all Kenyans to participate in tree planting during the rainy season as part of broader forest restoration efforts.

“Together, we can make a difference for our environment, our health, and our wealth,” she urged, highlighting the interconnectedness of ecological conservation and community well-being.

This year’s Mazingira Day serves as a reminder that every day presents an opportunity to appreciate and protect the Earth’s resources for future generations.
