Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised alarm over his safety, alleging that he has been targeted for assassination.

Speaking outside Karen Hospital on Sunday after his discharge, Gachagua revealed that he will be under home observation as part of his recovery. He detailed alarming incidents during a recent visit to Kisumu, where he claims individuals attempted to poison him and monitored his communications.

“On August 30, in Kisumu, undercover security agents entered my room and bugged it, with one attempting to poison my food. Fortunately, we detected the plot and escaped,” Gachagua stated.

He further alleged that in September, another group attempted to poison food intended for him and the Kikuyu Council of Elders during an event in Nyeri.

Feeling increasingly at risk, Gachagua disclosed that he dismissed several intelligence officers from his office, citing safety concerns.

“I reported these incidents to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and asked the officers assigned to my office to leave. It was after these failed assassination attempts that the impeachment motion was initiated,” he said.
