Nyeri Speaker Gichuhi Mwangi has emphasized that President William Ruto’s election victory was largely due to his choice of Rigathi Gachagua as running mate. Mwangi stated that without Gachagua, Ruto might not have secured the presidency.
In his remarks, Mwangi highlighted the strong competition William Ruto’s side faced from notable candidates in Nyeri county, including former Kieni MP Kanini Kega, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and former Othaya MP Gichuki Mugambi, all of whom were formidable contenders and were mobilizing for Azimio La Umoja.
He noted the impact of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, which had initiated numerous projects in Nyeri, further complicating Ruto’s path to victory. Despite the general unpopularity of Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga in the region, Mwangi suggested that Odinga could have emerged victorious had Ruto not chosen Gachagua as his running mate.
